Arrived Longreach

Crossing Drummond Range
Wonderful trip on train. Arrived Longreach Wednesday evening. Explored small town of Ilfracombe and an evening of bush poetry around the campfire was a great way to end our first day in the Outback. No internet so no posts for next week.

The Adventure Begins

One more sleep and we will be on the road to start our next adventure.

The truck is packed and we are all ready to rock and roll.  The journey will begin at 11am tomorrow - Tuesday, 16th April.

The first stage will be our 2 hour drive into Brisbane city where we will load "The Truck" onto the "Spirit of the Outback". We will be travelling first class, with a sleeper, from Brisbane to Longreach, leaving Roma Street station at about 4.30pm.  This part of the journey will take about 26 hours and we will travel through Rockhampton to Emerald (central Queensland gem field area) and onto Longreach.

From Emerald to Longreach is all new territory to the Rambling Retirees and we will be travelling through this region during daylight hours.  Hopefully we will be able to capture some of this country on camera to share with you all.

There is a feeling of great excitement today, knowing that we will be travelling through another part of this wide and beautiful State of Queensland that we have never experienced before.  The Old Grey One keeps warning me about the dry and dusty areas we are expected to travel into but for every Ying there is a Yang and we look forward to experiencing both.

With the help of technology we hope you will be able to enjoy the experience with us.
